Standard First Aid Training - 14 Hours

Course Overview

The Standard First Aid course is a 14 hour comprehensive program which focuses on the basic areas of preserving life, preventing further injury and providing first aid care until medical aid is available. This course is intended for the first aider who has EMS care within 15 minutes. 

Participants will receive a course workbook and Standard First Aid certification. Certification is recognized by Alberta Workplace Health and Safety. HeartSaver (Level C) CPR and AED follows the guidelines of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Certification is valid for 3 years. 

Certification is eligible to be recognized as Standard First Aid in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Yukon Territory; and as equivalent to OFA1 in British Columbia

Please note: This 14 hour in person Standard First Aid course will be held at the Yamnuska Mountain Adventures classroom in Canmore.

• Communicable disease • Patient Assessment System 

• Airway, Breathing and Circulation Management including Choking and HeartSaver Level C CPR and AED 

• Soft Tissue Injuries and their Care 

• Shock 

• Heart Attack, Angina and Stroke 

• Complete Assessment and Extended Care 

• Bone and Join Injuries • Spine, Head and Pelvic Injuries 

• Chest Trauma 

• Medical Emergencies 

• Bites, Stings, Poisons and Toxins 

• Heat and Cold Emergencies
